Farmhouse before Renovation
When we started the restoration of the Cortijo Roman, it was not only the farmhouse and outbuildings that were derelict but
the farm itself had all but been abandoned. All the fences were down and the meadows were becoming overgrown with gorse
bushes and wild olive trees. The conversion of the buildings had to take precedence over everything else.
However, we are now, little by little, getting to grips with the farm itself.
Thus far we have planted a small orchard, established a vegetable garden, cleaned some of the pasture and currently
have hens, goats and a donkey with pigs coming soon. We are in the process of being awarded organic status which should
be straightforward as chemicals have never been used on the land.
Both Mick and Fiona have backgrounds in agriculture and are very much enjoying being able to resume farming along with
running the accommodation. Our primary aim is to produce good quality fresh food for our family, guests and eventually the
surrounding communities.
